Smart Layering, Not More Layering

Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet news article image

Layers; I'm a massive fan, especially in this weather. The thing I am NOT a fan of, though, is the "Michelin Man" feeling/look. I HATE being so wrapped up that you can hardly move your arms, so for me, it's all about SMART layering, not MORE layering.

I don't think I've ridden or mucked out in more than 1 degrees Celsius this week, and with temperatures set to plummet to -7 degree tonight, it's safe to say I am correct in saying that it's friggin freezing!! So here's my go-to riding outfit for frosty Friday's...

First layer = AC Performance Skin. Their magic temperature control fabric means they are very cosy, but the mesh insert at the back ensures you don't get super sweaty once you get moving as you do with so many unvented tops.

Second layer = Gilet or AC Sweatshirt. I prefer to wear a gilet (and have a lovely fleece one because I don't like too many sleeves in one outfit, if that makes sense? However, this layer is just as effective with one of our Organic Sweatshirts.

Third layer = AC Thermo Training Jacket. Our super lightweight but super cosy Thermo Jacket is perfect for riding. It's warm, high necked and cut short, so it doesn't get in the way or get hooked on your saddle.

Fourth layer = Nothing. That's it.

Three well-performing layers are 100 times better than five low-quality layers. Finish the outfit off with some cosy accessories; I wear a fur-lined snood, fleece-lined ear covers that attach to your helmet and the warmest gloves I can find. I also have another jacket I will throw on over the top once I finish riding to ensure I don't get cold when I stop moving.

So there you are, the perfect recipe for layers - remember, a few quality layers is much more practical than loads of low-quality layers.
